ODD STICK STUDIO
is a culmination of my lifelong passion for a variety of art forms, including design and photography. I am George Gruel and I've taught and lectured about the proper photographing of Lighting Design and Photography to groups across America, from Boston to Los Angeles. My teaching seminars are compact and intense. You'll come away with a wealth of knowledge in a very short time.

LIGHTING DESIGNERS...
I can artistically render your lighting ideas using your daylight photos, giving your client a realistic idea what their finished lighting will look like. For clients who have difficulty visualizing your creative lighting solutions, this is a wonderful tool. Click on the renderings link above to learn more.

GRAPHIC DESIGNERS....
I have a thorough understanding of digital color and photo manipulation and I have worked with, and have been trained by, some of the best in the business. I worked at the Color Exchange in Los Angeles for many years making high-end color correction and photo manipulation for large national clients who, like Nautica and OPI, demanded the very best. Although I embrace digital technology, I am first and foremost an old fashioned craftsman, and I take pride in my work. I pay full attention to the details. For an example, click on the PRIORITY link on the right side of this page. Click here to see my brief history of MANIPULATION.

PHOTOGRAPHERS....
I can help photographers who are now in, or entering, the digital realm. I was trained in the Ansel Adams zone system, so I have a deep understanding of the differences between film and digital photography. Photoshop has become an integral part of the digital process--in truth, it has become the darkroom.
I learned Photoshop in 1990 using version One. Today, with the ability to shoot in RAW format and “develop the film” in Photoshop, the creative possibilities are endless. If you understand the software. That's where I can help. Learning how to correct Chromatic Aberrations caused in a digital lens and understanding how the Smart Sharpening filter works are two of the more important steps I can teach. I can show photographers of all levels how to produce great digital photographic prints. With my hands-on method, I can teach clearly and quickly other main function like Masking and Layers. Learning these skills, I believe, will set you free in Photoshop.
